Family Mediation

Separation and divorce are difficult times for families. At these times, it is important to make decisions which meet children's needs so that parents and other family members can continue to play a part.

The aim of mediation is to help you find sensible, workable arrangements, which, as far as possible, meet the needs of everyone, especially the children.

When parents cannot agree about the arrangements for their children, mediation offers a way of making those decisions. Within the mediation process the children can be consulted and their views taken into account during the discussions. This reassures the children that their views are important to their parents.

In order for child consultation to take place both parents must agree and careful preparation of both parents and the child will be undertaken.

Mediation can help improve communication by reducing the chance of misunderstanding and arguments. This is especially important for children as they can be damaged by ongoing conflict.
